Otti & Meen Curry (Traditional Coorg Rice Rotis & Sardine Curry)

Otti or Rice Roti (Traditional Coorg Rice Roti)


Ingredients (For 6 - 7 Ottis)

2 cups Slightly over Over cooked or Left-over cooked rice

5 Tbsps Akki Poddi or Rice Flour (Available in any grocery store)

Meen Curry (Traditional Coorg Sardine Curry)


Ingredients

6 - 7 pieces of Sardines (gutted and cleaned)

1 Tbsp Oil

1 Tbsp Chili Powder

1 Tsp Turmeric Powder

1 Tsp Salt

2 Tomatoes Chopped in small cubes

1 Onion Chopped into small cubes

1 Tsp Garlic Mince

4 - 5 Curry Leaves

1 Tbsps Tamarind Water

1 Tsp Mustard Seeds

1 Tsp Jeera Powder

1 Tsp Kachampuli


Method

Marinate Fish, with salt, chili, turmeric and kachampuli. Leave in the fridge overnight to marinate.

Before prep, take out fish. In a pan low to medium flame, add Oil, Mustard seeds, Onion. When browning add garlic, and after a minute, tomatoes. Let the juices blend well, until they are in a lumpy chutney like texture. Add the Jeera powder, Fish. Add a glass of water, and cover. After 5-7 mins, flip the fish, and add curry leaves, a bit of salt, and the tamarind water.


Remove when you feel the fish jus has mixed well with the tomato mix, and is a semi-thick gravy.
