ABOUT US

The Drunken Pig Story

The Drunken Pig food blog is definitely influenced by the preference we Coorgs have for coffee brews, spirits and meat dishes especially those made with Pork. However, our blog is a lot more than this.

It's about my family recipes, food my siblings and I grew up eating and most of all, our experiences with global cuisine world over.

COORG TRAIL

KODAGU & THE KODAVAS

Coorg is the anglicized name for Kodagu or Kodumale (steep mountains) and the dominant inhabitants are the Kodavas (Coorgs). Kodavas comes from the word 'Kodagas' referred to the mountain clan of Coorg. This green district in the Western Ghats, is covered by forest, coffee plantation, uncultivated dry lands (bané) and cultivated wet lands (béhl). The towns, villages and houses in Coorg are spread out in numbers but are not overcrowded as one might think.

GAZETTEER OF COORG COMPILED

"The Coorgs are very hospitable ; no beggar goes away empty from their houses. To leave a Coorg house without having partaken of any offered refreshment, be it only a sip of milk or an orange, would be a grave offence against Coorg etiquette."

REVEREND G. RICHTER
(Inspector of the Coorg schools, 1870)
